Cubed Steak Sandwiches

This is a Friday Night classic at our house.
I have been making this sandwich ever since Andy and I have been married.
It was actually kind of hard to write out the recipe because I have done it so many times, I have never really followed a recipe.
I typically go grocery shopping on Friday's and never want to put together a big meal after shopping and putting away groceries. This Sandwich is very easy to throw to together, and is so tasty.

Cubed Steak Sandwiches

- 4 cubed steaks
-1 1/2 Tablespoon butter
-1/2 - 3/4 cup water
-garlic powder, to taste
-salt and pepper, to taste
-4 slices of a onion
-sliced tomatoes
-4 slices of provolone cheese (you can also use mozzarella or swiss)
-4 soft rolls, or hamburger buns, or Texas Toast

1. Melt 1 Tablespoon of butter in a frying pan or skillet. Place the cubed steaks on top of the melted butter and turn heat to medium high. Add 1/2 cup water to the pan. Cook steak 10 minutes on each side. While the steak is cooking season with salt, pepper, and garlic. If all of the liquid in the pan cooks away before the steaks are done add a 1/3 cup more of water. When the steaks are done, set the steak aside.

2. In the same pan, add the remainder 1/2 Tablespoon of butter and the onion. Cook onion stirring frequently, until the onions are soft and a little golden. Take the out of the pan and set aside.

3. In the same pan, place the cut in half soft rolls or hamburger buns flat side down on the hot and left-over butter. Cook them as long as it takes for them to get golden brown on the flat side down. take out of pan.

4. Place the cooked cubed steak back in the pan turn the heat down to low. Place the slices of cheese on top of the steak. Allow to melt.

5. To assemble: on top of the rolls place cubed steak with melted cheese, cooked onion, sliced tomato, mayo(optional). I like to add a side of spinach salad, but that is totally optional.

Enjoy!
